Front Porch Strumming and More! – Level 1+ – We’ll work on developing a good right hand strum, learn how strum direction can help you with counting and rhythms and explore some basic ideas about chords and left hand fingering. AND, we’ll learn some really fun tunes for your repertoire. DAD Tuning
Sound Better Fast -Chord Fingering and Finger Placement – Level 2 – We’ll start with a few exercises to help you understand chord shapes and specific fingerings. Then we’ll have fun applying them to several tunes, including “The Nutting Girl” a lovely English dance tune. DAD Tuning
Hornpipes – Level 3 – Hornpipes were “step-hop” dances used on board ships to exercise the weary sailors. The “long-short” rhythm is really fun to play. They are catchy tunes and are great ways to improve your right and left hand technique. DAD Tuning
Duets and Ensembles – Level 4 – Playing duets helps you improve your listening skills and enjoyment as you play together. Our repertoire will be mostly Celtic and classical and a few pieces will have bass parts. Come prepared to make beautiful music together. DAD Tuning
JAM WORKSHOP – Play Along Without Panic – Level 2-3 – Use eyes, ears, TAB (later) and musical understanding to play along and join in! We’ll learn simple techniques to help you learn new tunes quickly and painlessly. DAD Tuning
SUNDAY – Bluegrass Fingerpicking – Plain or Fancy – Level 2-3 – We’ll take a tune or two and by varying your right hand technique we’ll convert the bum-diddy strum style to bluegrass style fingerpicking. This technique can be fast and flashy, or slow and sweet for an early country sound. It works for hymns too. We’ll learn two tunes from my book and a new one! -Really fun! DAD Tuning
